As the Snail Mail mascot, Percy the Snail is one busy mollusk.

When Tandem Diabetes Care heard that Percy the Snail had switched to a t:slim X2 insulin pump, we were over the moon! We decided to sponsor the Snail Mail program because we think it’s important for kids with type 1 diabetes to connect with each other.

Introducing Basal-IQ Technology

Percy’s new t:slim X2 pump has Basal-IQ® technology, which predicts and helps prevent lows with zero fingersticks* when integrated with the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System. That is great news for Percy, since he doesn’t have fingers.

Keep reading to see how Percy’s t:slim X2 pump helps him during his busy day.

Making a Splash

As Percy gets ready for school and sees it's raining outside, he isn't worried, because his t:slim X2 pump is watertight. He knows that it’s okay if his pump gets a little wet if he slides through a puddle at the bus stop (by accident or for fun).

Checking Glucose on the Go

Percy loves that his t:slim X2 pump has a large touchscreen, because it’s easy to learn and use like a smartphone or tablet – with no scrolling required! While he rides the bus to school, he can quickly check his glucose level on his pump.

Snailed It!

The t:slim X2 pump is small – up to 38% smaller than other pumps. When Percy gets to school, he can easily hide his pump in his pocket – or in his shell! Today, Percy felt like showing off his pump to his friends, who think it’s cool that it helps keep him healthy and happy.

A Protective Shell

The t:slim X2 pump is made of strong aluminum and shatter-resistant glass, which means it’s hard to break. Percy is careful with his pump, but he knows it’s strong like his shell. He loves playing outside with his friends without worrying his t:slim X2 pump will be damaged.

Going Slow – Not Low

Going low is no fun, which is why Percy loves Basal-IQ technology. With Dexcom G6 CGM integration, Basal-IQ technology predicts and helps prevent lows, so Percy can spend less time worrying about going low and more time writing his Snail Mail pen pals!

Responsible Use of Basal-IQ Technology

Systems like the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Basal-IQ technology are not substitutes for active diabetes management, as there are common scenarios in which automated systems cannot prevent hypoglycemia. The Basal-IQ feature relies on continuous CGM readings and will not be able to predict glucose levels and suspend insulin delivery if your CGM is not working properly or is unable to communicate with your pump. Be sure to always use your pump, cartridges, CGM, and infusion sets as instructed and check them regularly to make sure they are working properly. Always pay attention to your symptoms, actively monitor your glucose levels, and treat according to your healthcare provider’s recommendations.

* If glucose alerts and CGM readings do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.
† Tested to 3 feet for 30 minutes (IPX7 rating).
‡ 38% smaller than MiniMed 630G and 670G and at least 28% smaller than MiniMed 530G, Animas Vibe, and Omnipod System. Data on File. Tandem Diabetes Care.

Important Safety Information:
RX ONLY. The t:slim X2 insulin pump with Basal-IQ technology (the System) consists of the t:slim X2 insulin pump, which contains Basal-IQ technology, and a compatible CGM. CGM sold separately. The t:slim X2 insulin pump is intended for the subcutaneous delivery of insulin, at set and variable rates, for the management of diabetes mellitus in persons requiring insulin. The t:slim X2 insulin pump can be used solely for continuous insulin delivery and as part of the System. When the System is used with a compatible iCGM, Basal-IQ technology can be used to suspend insulin delivery based on CGM sensor readings. Interpretation of the System results should be based on the trends and patterns seen with several sequential readings over time. CGM also aids in the detection of episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, facilitating both acute and long-term therapy adjustments. Compatible iCGM systems are intended for single patient use and require a prescription. The System is indicated for use in individuals 6 years of age and greater. The System is intended for single patient use and requires a prescription. The System is indicated for use with NovoLog or Humalog U-100 insulin. The System is not approved for use in pregnant women, persons on dialysis, or critically ill patients.
