What is Included

This update adds Control-IQ technology to your t:slim X2 insulin pump. Control-IQ technology is designed to help increase time in range (3.9-10.0 mmol/L) using Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)* values to predict glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and adjust insulin.

Before You Begin

This update requires completion of online training, which must be initiated through your account in order to receive the Update ID Number needed to update your pump software. If you have not yet requested your update, log in to your account to begin the process.

Three Simple Steps to Update

Get Ready to Update

You must have completed the initial pump training process mentioned above and have received your Update ID Number to proceed.

Please consult the Tandem Device Updater User Guide and have the following:

A convenient time to stop all insulin delivery, detach your infusion set, and remove your cartridge. This update will take 15 to 30 minutes.
Your unique Update ID Number, which you should receive once we have received your prescription (if required) and you've completed your online training.
The pump serial number
Compatible computer with an internet connection (ethernet is preferred)
A backup insulin delivery option, such as a syringe and long-acting insulin, in case there are any issues updating your pump
Your blood glucose (BG) meter so that you can check your BG prior to starting the software update
Supplies to change your cartridge. We recommend performing the update when you are ready for a new cartridge.

Note: Control-IQ technology only works with the Dexcom G6 CGM. If you are still using Dexcom G5 Mobile CGM and have Dexcom G5 supplies you plan to use, we recommend postponing this update until you are ready to switch to the new Dexcom G6 system. If you are already using Dexcom G6 CGM and have an active sensor session when you update your pump, you will need to start the session again on your pump after the update is complete. The update process will NOT stop the sensor session, and you will not need to re-enter your transmitter ID. When your pump asks if you have a sensor code, tap SKIP. Your pump should backfill any data missed during the update. You can continue to view your Dexcom G6 CGM data on the Dexcom mobile app during the update process.

Download the Tandem Device Updater

Download and install the Tandem Device Updater using the links below to ensure you are using the latest version. If you have already downloaded the application in the past, you may have an older version installed and will need to install it again.

The Tandem Device Updater should automatically start once installation is complete. However, please read the next article to make sure you are ready to start the update process within the Tandem Device Updater application.

Update Your Pump

Follow the prompts to update your t:slim X2 insulin pump. The process should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Note: If the Tandem Device Updater encounters a condition that will not allow you to continue, you will see an error message on your computer screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error and continue with your update. If you are unable to continue with your update, contact Customer Support at (833) 509-3598. Reference the Troubleshooting section of the Tandem Device Updater User Guide, if you have trouble connecting your pump or starting an update.

Tandem Device Updater

This application runs on your computer and allows you to update the software on your insulin pump. If this application is already installed on your computer, you may still need to download again to ensure you have the current version.

System Requirements

You will need administrator rights to install Tandem Device Updater on your laptop or desktop computer, along with an internet connection. Please review all requirements.

Responsible Use of Control‑IQ Technology

Even with advanced systems such as Control-IQ technology, users are still responsible for actively managing their diabetes. Control-IQ technology does not prevent all high and low blood glucose events. The system is designed to help reduce glucose variability, but it requires that users accurately input information, such as meals and periods of sleep or exercise. Control-IQ technology will not function as intended unless all system components, including CGM, infusion sets and pump cartridges, are used as instructed. Importantly, the system cannot adjust insulin dosing if the pump is not receiving CGM readings. Because there are situations and emergencies that the system may not be capable of identifying or addressing, users should always pay attention to their symptoms and treat accordingly.

Important Safety Information

The t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ technology (the System) consists of the t:slim X2 insulin pump, which contains Control-IQ technology, and a compatible continuous glucose monitor (CGM, sold separately). The t:slim X2 insulin pump is intended for the subcutaneous delivery of insulin, at set and variable rates, for the management of diabetes mellitus in people requiring insulin. The t:slim X2 insulin pump can be used solely for continuous insulin delivery and as part of the System. When used with a compatible CGM, the System can be used to automatically increase, decrease, and suspend delivery of basal insulin based on CGM sensor readings and predicted glucose values. The System can also deliver correction boluses when the glucose value is predicted to exceed a predefined threshold. The pump and the System are indicated for use in individuals 6 years of age and greater. The pump and the System are intended for single user use. The pump and the System are indicated for use with NovoRapid, Admelog, Trurapi, or Humalog U-100 insulin. The System is intended for the management of Type 1 diabetes.

Warning: Control-IQ technology should not be used by anyone under the age of 6 years old. It should also not be used in users who require less than 10 units of insulin per day or who weigh less than 25 kilograms.

The System is not indicated for use in pregnant women, people on dialysis, or critically ill users. Do not use the System if using hydroxyurea.

Users of the pump and the System must: be willing and able to use the insulin pump, CGM, and all other system components in accordance with their respective instructions for use; test blood glucose levels as recommended by their healthcare provider; demonstrate adequate carb-counting skills; maintain sufficient diabetes self-care skills; see healthcare provider(s) regularly; and have adequate vision and/or hearing to recognize all functions of the pump, including alerts, alarms, and reminders.
