Remove Pump Before Applying Bug Spray and Sunscreen

While bug spray and sun block are summer essentials, they can be potential hazards for your pump. Be sure to keep your pump away from sunscreen, lotion, or bug spray and wash your hands after applying these products.

Keep It Cool

Your pump needs to stay cool in the summer heat. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for extended periods.

Insulin may become less effective or stop working if exposed to hot temperatures. Your pump will notify you with a temperature alarm if it recognizes that the insulin may be getting too hot.

Water Activities

Whether you're hitting the pool, beach, or water park, remember you have the freedom to disconnect from your Tandem pump at your infusion site. Discuss with your healthcare provider how to account for missed insulin if you will be disconnected for longer periods of time.

Note: Tandem Mobi is water-resistant (IP28) for 8 feet for up to 2 hours and the t:slim X2 pump is watertight (IP27) for 3 feet for up to 30 minutes.

Sticking Power

With increased sweating and water activities, it's essential to maintain proper adhesion of your infusion set. Consider using additional adhesive products, like skin prep wipes or tape, to help keep your infusion set secure, especially in areas prone to rubbing or moisture.

Always keep an extra infusion set with you. It never hurts to be prepared!

Cleaning Your Pump

Regular cleaning is important, especially during the summer when sweat and grime can accumulate more quickly. A damp cloth, and, if needed, a small amount of mild soap, can be used to wipe the pump clean.*
